Shore Pride - Brant Beach, NJ
A bicycle rests against with the backlit stars and stripes blowing behind in the summer ocean breeze. This part of the shore sustained vast amounts of damage during superstorm Sandy the year before. In this image new planting on the dunes to help with coastal erosion and storm surges can be seen.
Taken August 2013
Almost a year on from superstorm Sandy New Jersey still bears the scars. Nowhere is this more evident than at the shore. In some areas ruined homes and businesses still remain. In all areas signs of recovery and repair can be seen.
At Brant Beach on Long Beach Island restoration of the dunes is in progress. The dunes have been replanted and new fences and benches are being erected.
This shot was taken late in the afternoon as the setting suns golden light shines through the Stars and Stripes that stands at this and every other entrance along the beach.
